Potty-mouthed governor Gretchen Whitmer ran on a platform of “fix the damn roads” in 2018. She never did.
In 2023, Michigan’s Democrat majority began its tenure with $9 billion in surplus money.
Democrats blew through the surplus funding various crony causes, a cut of which was laundered back into their campaign coffers, but the roads were never fixed, and now six years into Gretch’s term of office, the money is gone and the roads are worse than ever.
And so, after returning from her vacation in the UAE, Gretchen found herself sitting next to President Trump at a dinner for the nation’s governor’s last weekend, where she – you guessed it – begged the President for money to fix Michigan’s roads, and then whined about him not giving her the money.
Per the Detroit Free Press:
Whitmer, a Democrat, said she and Trump, a Republican who was seated immediately to her right, talked about “a variety of things,” from roads and infrastructure, to the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade*, to the skills gap in education.
But the discussion on roads was “very obtuse,” Whitmer said, and she didn’t take away any commitments from it.
“He reiterated his hope that Congress passes a package to sign into law,” but “there wasn’t much specificity,” she said.
Why should federal taxpayers pay to fix Michigan roads, just because Gretchen Whitmer blew through a $9 billion surplus?
*The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade is not “new.” It was signed in 2018. It is unclear why the Detroit Free Press would insert the word “new” here.
