There is no higher crime for an elected official than to use a public office for political purposes.
But that is what Gretchen Whitmer’s staff has admitted the governor is doing by refusing to call a special election to fill a State Senate seat.
At Saginaw area “town hall” event, her own staff admitted as much.
They claimed the reason Whitmer hasn’t called a special election more than two months after the seat was vacated was because of “an issue with the Michigan Democrat Party” and then said they couldn’t speak to the issue because it was a “political conversation.”
Calling a special election to fill a vacant legislative seat for 270,000 Michiganders isn’t a “political conversation.” It’s a basic duty that should require absolutely no special considerations whatsoever. The election should be called at the first opportunity, period.
Whitmer isn’t calling an election because she is afraid a Republican will win the seat. There’s nothing more to it than that. It’s a gross abuse of power, and an impeachable offense.
