It was inevitable, and now it’s official: Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist is running to succeed Gretchen Whitmer as Michigan’s worst governor.
Gilchrist is competing with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson for the Democrat nomination.
Gilchrist is not particularly known for having any achievements or tasks in the Whitmer administration, who seems to have kept him sidelined for the past eight years. He is mostly known for presiding over the State Senate, a pointless job since he cannot vote except to break ties, which almost never occur.
Like most Democrat politicians, Gilchrist is a career politician with little experience in the real world. He worked just four years at Microsoft after completing college before becoming a community organizer and then working for the Democrat organization MoveOn. He ran a failed campaign for Detroit City Clerk, losing to Janice Winfrey, just before being selected by Gretchen Whitmer as a running mate.
It appears Whitmer kept the Democrat tradition of choosing a running mate that can be counted on never to upstage her.
