Statement on the Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Our nation mourns the loss of Char­lie Kirk, slain by polit­i­cal assas­si­na­tion on Sep­tem­ber 10, 2025. The Washt­e­naw Repub­li­can Club shares in this grief.

As Sec­re­tary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. not­ed: “Once again, a bul­let has silenced the most elo­quent truth teller of an era.”

We pray for peace for the Kirk fam­i­ly, safe­ty for all of the Utah Val­ley Uni­ver­si­ty cam­pus, and swift jus­tice for Char­lie’s mur­der­er. As we do so, we also reflect on the root cause of this tragedy.

Char­lie Kirk was tar­get­ed for assas­si­na­tion because he was one of the most prin­ci­pled, pas­sion­ate, and effec­tive advo­cates for our great Amer­i­can val­ues. First among those val­ues was free­dom of speech. He was killed in the hon­or­able act of intel­lec­tu­al­ly engag­ing his oppo­nents on a col­lege cam­pus: a forum where intel­lec­tu­al free­dom should be afford­ed the strongest pro­tec­tions.

Char­lie not only advo­cat­ed for his prin­ci­ples, but fear­less­ly spoke the truth on the mat­ters under­pin­ning his beliefs: the facts that the mass media, and the rad­i­cal left to which it serves, so active­ly seek to sup­press.

As with all assas­si­na­tions, this was an act of ter­ror­ism. Its intend­ed pur­pose was to chill the polit­i­cal speech of con­ser­v­a­tives.

In the face of this ter­ror­ist vio­lence, we must refuse to be silenced. Indeed, we must hon­or his mem­o­ry by exer­cis­ing our right to free speech in the fullest, and to recom­mit to expos­ing, con­fronting, and defeat­ing the forces of the rad­i­cal Left in Amer­i­ca.

Char­lie would have want­ed that.
