In December 2024, Democrats in the Michigan House of Representatives failed to deliver nine bills passed in the “Lame Duck” session to Gretchen Whitmer for her signature, which therefore expired. Senate Democrats then sued, seeking a court order to force the House of Representatives to deliver the long-dead bills to Gretchen Whiter to be signed into law. In an outrageous violation of separation of powers, a state court gave them the order, and this week the state Supreme Court left the unconstitutional order standing.
Nevertheless, in a surprise move that has infuriated state Democrats, Gretchen Whiter vetoed all of the bills.
