Bored with partisan deadlock in Lansing and having nothing to do in her final “lame duck” years in office, Gretchen Whitmer spent the first two months of 2026 doing what she does best: vacationing.
Her taxpayer-funded junkets were, of course, considered “official business” for the purpose of “bringing jobs to Michigan” to conceal the obvious fact that these are taxpayer-funded vacations (and perhaps with a side benefit of hobnobbing ahead of a presidential run).
Per Michigan Capitol Confidential:
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer spent $61,000 on a six-day trip to Davos, Switzerland, in January, according to documents obtained through a records request. […]
[Her] expenses in 2025 include:
- Australia, $219,622 in June 2025
- United Kingdom, $204,000 in April 2025
- Germany, Japan, Singapore, $470,000 in September 2025
- United Arab Emirates: $175,000 in February 2025
- Canada: $73,732 in October 2025
