Derrick Jackson is a failed candidate for Washtenaw County Sheriff who lost the Democrat primary in 2024 to social worker Alyshia Dyer. Washtenaw County Democrats support criminals, not victims, so the Democrats’ race was one in which candidates ran to be as un-cop-like and unqualified as possible.
Jackson, being a retired officer, had nothing on Alyshia Dyer, who has no qualifications whatsoever to serve as sheriff.
As a consolation prize, Washtenaw County would name Jackson its new “Racial Equity Officer” on December 9, 2024. (No, counties are not supposed to give out consolation prizes). But while Jackson’s campaign was still ongoing, Jackson identified himself a social worker, to the chagrin of licensed social workers.
Now, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has issued an order (read it here) prohibiting Jackson from identifying himself as a social worker. Practicing social work without a license is a felony.
Regardless of the law that Jackson once campaigned to uphold, Jackson continues to identify himself as a social worker on his LinkedIn page and Facebook page, as well as being identified as such on the Washtenaw County website.
