State Sen. McMorrow to Illegals: Get Your Detroit ID Card

State Sen­a­tor Mal­lo­ry McMor­row (D‑Royal Oak) wants to make sure peo­ple in her vot­ing dis­trict, includ­ing ille­gal aliens, know that the Detroit ID card pro­gram is back.

In a Jan. 11 email to con­stituents, Sen. McMor­row encour­aged peo­ple “regard­less of immi­gra­tion sta­tus” to apply for the card. […]

The city paused the pro­gram in 2022 due to con­cerns that U.S. Immi­gra­tion and Cus­toms Enforce­ment (ICE) offi­cials might be able to access the infor­ma­tion to deport ille­gal aliens. They city switched to a ven­dor that did not elec­tron­i­cal­ly store infor­ma­tion. Instead, cards are only print­ed now. Offi­cials restart­ed the Detroit ID pro­gram last Sep­tem­ber.

In response to an X post not­ing that among oth­er perks, a Detroit ID card can be used for vot­er reg­is­tra­tion, the City of Detroit’s offi­cial account false­ly claimed that “Detroit ID can­not be used for vot­ing.”

In fact, vot­ers in Michi­gan can attest to their cit­i­zen­ship through an affi­davit, pro­vide “Detroit ID,” reg­is­ter, and vote with­out any iden­ti­fi­ca­tion at all.
