From Michigan News Source:
State Senator Mallory McMorrow (D‑Royal Oak) wants to make sure people in her voting district, including illegal aliens, know that the Detroit ID card program is back.
In a Jan. 11 email to constituents, Sen. McMorrow encouraged people “regardless of immigration status” to apply for the card. […]
The city paused the program in 2022 due to concerns that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials might be able to access the information to deport illegal aliens. They city switched to a vendor that did not electronically store information. Instead, cards are only printed now. Officials restarted the Detroit ID program last September.
In response to an X post noting that among other perks, a Detroit ID card can be used for voter registration, the City of Detroit’s official account falsely claimed that “Detroit ID cannot be used for voting.”
In fact, voters in Michigan can attest to their citizenship through an affidavit, provide “Detroit ID,” register, and vote without any identification at all.
