Michigan Democrat Congressman Shri Thanedar wants to impeach President Donald Trump over “high crimes” related to the deportation of a MS-13 terrorist gang member to El Salvador.
“I’ve seen enough,” Thanedar falsely claimed on Facebook last week. “Trump is not abiding by a Supreme Court ruling. I fully support impeaching him. NOW.”
Thanedar was referencing the deportation of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, an adjudicated member of the Salvadoran gang MS-13, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the Trump administration. The case has become a major disinformation campaign intended to lay the groundwork for a future false impeachment of President Trump.
Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia was an illegal alien from El Salvador. He was arrested in 2019 in association with MS-13 gang activities. Represented by counsel, the government presented evidence, including witness testimony, that he was a member of MS-13. He presented no evidence to the contrary and freely admitted to being an illegal alien. He appealed his lawful deportation order and lost.
For the next six years, Garcia disobeyed his deportation order. Meanwhile Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared MS-13 a terrorist organization as authorized by Congress. Garcia at that point became an illegal alien member of a terrorist organization, voiding a withholding order that would have still required him to deport, but not to El Salvador.
After being deported back to El Salvador, radical activist district judge Paula Xinis unlawfully ordered the Trump administration to “effectuate” his return to the United States, something the judicial branch has no power to order (because foreign policy is the exclusive jurisdiction of the Executive Branch).
On appeal, the Supreme Court reversed Xinis by requiring she “clarify” what she meant by “effectuate” because this “might” be outside the scope of her authority and ordered her to clarify “with due deference to the Executive Branch.” Notably, the court said only that that the government should “facilitate” (not impede) the release, not return, of Garcia.
Regrettably, the Supreme Court’s politeness was taken for weakness, and Xinis simply lied about what they said and began ordering the Trump administration to abscond Garcia from the custody of his home country of El Salvador.
We look forward to the Supreme Court retaking the case, setting the record straight, and humiliating the Democrats once and for all on this matter.
